Marie-Sophie Krainz

visual artist, graphic designer, and illustrator, based in Vienna

To continually expand her creative perspectives, the artist confronts the concepts of stability. Her works can be seen as introspective studies of the human condition, often infused with a touch of melancholy and sadness. Through expressive compositions, she explores the ambivalence of tranquility and mania, control and delusion, harmony and destruction.

The tension that arises in these fields of conflict creates additional space for reflection, inviting viewers to realign conventional perspectives.

To bring her artistic visions to life, the artist employs both traditional and experimental techniques influenced by movements such as abstract expressionism, dada, and surrealism.

The in 1994 born artist completed her diploma in Communication and Media Design in 2013. In 2016 and 2017, she had the opportunity to learn under renowned Austrian artist Eva Meloun. Since late 2018, Marie-Sophie has dedicated herself to being a visual artist, primarily focusing on painting.

Her artistic repertoire encompasses both figurative and abstract styles, allowing her to explore a wide range of visual expressions. She employs diverse media, such as oil and acrylic paints, charcoal, pastels, and gouache, to bring her artistic vision to life. Her works have been exhibited and sold nationally and internationally.

Marie-Sophie Krainz‘s artistic process is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a dedication to technique, but also letting herself immerge in rough play between impulse and control. Her work reflects a unique blend of technical skill, artistic vision, and a deep understanding of aesthetics.

By integrating a disability affecting her right arm and hand in her painting process she implements an aim of expression within the feeling of impairment, representing an approach of nihilistic cynicism in her works.

Through her art, the painter aims to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and connect with viewers on a profound level. With each piece she creates, she invites audiences to experience her artistic universe and discover their own personal connections within it.
